I am trying to find a solution to opening the cover on a swim spa.

If we get the lifts I see, they will block entrance on the ends, where the steps are.

I would like to have the lift take the cover over the long edge.

I have only found 2 possibilities.
1. A gazebo roof lift which goes straight up
2. A rolling cover which starts at one end.

Any other ideas?

Is this on a spa that you already have installed? There are automatic covers for spas, but they'd need to be built in.
